FREE CROCHET PATTERN! "Canyon Sunrise" One Skein Adjustable Cowl

It's that time again..... 
A FREE CROCHET PATTERN!

This is a design for an adjustable cowl, perfect for cooler weather and looks lovely with any color changing bulky yarn - I used Lion Brand Homespun in "Painted Desert". The colors reminded me more of a sunrise over a canyon though, hence the name.

This took me almost exactly one skein! FOR THE WIN!!!

It also has an adjustable tie, and with the stitch variation, sits nicely around the neck and off the shoulders. And the color change almost works out per row, which was totally by accident, but we can pretend I'm a yarn and crochet mathematical genius and planned it! Anyway, on to the good stuff...



MATERIALS/NOTES/ABBREVIATIONS
- 6.5 mm hook
- tapestry needle to sew in ends
- one skein Lion Brand Homespun Yarn 
- you will work in the round, no turning at the end of each round
- there is no gauge, because all the stitches are different. Just use medium tension, if you crochet loosely, it may take more than 1 skein 

- mini-popcorn stitch: this is the same as a popcorn stitch, but with only 3 dc's. Find a great tutorial with diagrams HERE. Work 3 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch, drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group. Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
- Abbreviations (in American terms) : ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch, sc = single scrochet, hdc  = half  double crochet, dc = double crochet, tc = triple crochet

PATTERN:

-Ch 76, ss to form ring, be sure it is not twisted (no turning, but ss to join at end of each round!)

-Round 1: Ch 2, dc in next, then dc around (75)

-Round 2: Ch 3, tc in next, then tc around (75)

-Round 3: Ch 2 - 2 dc - complete mini-popcorn stitch, ch 1, then mini-popcorn st around, always with a ch 1 in between each, working in the  (40)

-Round 4: Start with ch 3, then dc- ch 1- dc (lattice stitch) in between each popcorn space

-Round 5: Ch 2, dc in next, dc in each ch space and top of st around (85)

-Round 6 - 12: Repeat Round's 2 - 5 twice  (when finished you end up with the pattern created in
  Rounds 2, 3, 4, & 5 repeated three times)

-Round 13: Ch 1, sc twice in ch space, sc in next, repeat around, ss to join and tie off, weave in.

-Cut a length of yarn (either the same or a coordinating color) about 36 inches. Thread it through the top lattice stitch row, where there are gaps between the stitches.

I designed a coordinating hat as well, the pattern IS NOW FOR SALE. It has been a huge hit with my finished product customers :)The pattern is sized fro Toddler through Adult Large, you can leave the flower off and make this for a guy!
