Free Crochet Pattern: TWO Super Easy Hearts

It's that time of year.....
Valentine's Day fast approaches, and you may need and easy heart applique pattern. My patterns are worked in joined rounds, as I was not happy with how the others I had tried out were looking and they got a bit confusing.

I used this batch to make hair pins, and a few larger ones that will go onto headbands. I used a variety of yarns, hooks, and stitch combinations before coming up with 2 that I liked best. I am not providing yarn or hook info for that reason, play around and have fun with your scraps! These take very little yarn to make, and are fast and easy.

Heart Pattern One (3D):

Abbreviations:
-sc = single crochet
-hdc = half double crochet
-dc = double crochet
-tc = triple crochet
-ch = chain
-st = stitch

  • Make a Magic Ring, ch 2
  • Hdc 10 into ring, join, pull tight! Ch 2
  • Hdc into same st, dc in next st, dc and tc in next st, sc, then dc and tc in next, dc, 2 hdc in same st, then join
  • Ch 1, then sc around, with 2 sc's in the corners of the heart if you want them more pronounced, and a dc at the bottom point of the heart.
  • I stopped here. You could continue by ch 1, and repeating the previous row as many times as you want, switching colors even.
  • This heart does not lay flat, but when stretched out, I found the raised outer row made for a cute accent. Add buttons to the center, or beads, or other embellishments. Sew two together and stuff for a 3D heart.
3D heart with a button, attached to a bobby pin.

Heart Pattern Two (Flat Heart):
  • Make a Magic Ring, ch 2
  • Hdc 10 into ring, join, pull tight! Ch 2
  • hdc into same st, then dc and tc in next stitch, tc and dc in next, sc, then dc and tc in next, tc and dc in next, 2 hdc in next, 2 hdc, tc, 2 hdc, join.
  • Once again, I stopped here. These were small hearts. For larger, ch 2, and either 2 sc in each st around, or repeat the above row for a more pronounced look. The key is to have 2 stitches in each so the heart will lay flat.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi, thank you for the cute patterns. I have one favour to ask of you: as you create the page for the patterns, could you please put them on a white background? It costs a lot in ink to print out patterns that are created on a coloured background. Many thanks for all you do!

You can set your printer to NOT print the background images/colors pretty easily in your printer preferences. Go into the advanced settings, and it will not print & take up all that ink.

Thank you! I unfortunately can't change the background, but CoasterDeb had a great suggestion, or you could cut and paste the post into a Word document. When I have time I plan to make PDF files for everything, but between being a disabled Mom, clients, and life in general, have not been able to do so yet. I hope these two options help for now! Thanks again.
